BHNZ holds contests each year at the annual convention to find the national champion quartet and chorus.

The contests at convention are judged by qualified judges (see
Contests and Judging for more information).
Quartets must first qualify in the regional contest before they can compete in the annual contest at convention.
The regional contests will be held at the HEA weekends (see
https://hea.barbershopharmony.nz).
